Season 4 Recap

When the NAFL announced it's initial comeback the media was not around even tho the League Commisioner called for the initial press conference. The media including ESPN said that the league was doomed to fail. Most Teams wanted to come back but we're unsure what would happen in an 8 man hybrid league that will be using a 110 yard field. Only 6 teams entered the league and the Commisioner felt this was good enough to get things started. Only a few players returned to there perspective teams. So the league was forced to sign Arena League, NFL Europe, and NCAA rejects. It looked like the league was setting itself up for a nasty fall.

All records from the previous seasons are now null and void and it angered some players and was part of the reason some players refused to return and pretty much was the final nail to the coffin. So things we're rocky from the get go but players who did return remained optimistic. Despite only 6 teams ... The League stuck with the 16 game format and teams played each other 3 times.

The first Pre-season game which was the Long Beach Storm vs. The Boston Sharks. The Game brought better than expected ratings from local stations in Long Beach but still skeptics and Sports talk radio shows refused to talk about it on there shows. Mexico City, Boston, and the Johnston Flood sold out all there games.

The mainstream sports media still looked the other way, but began to slowly pay attention towards the end. The Johnstown Flood was a heavy favorite to take it all before the season got started. They got off to a rocky start and just barely broke even at 7-7 and barely managed to get into the play-offs. Gameplay wise Many teams struggled including the most dominating teams in the league halfway thru the season. Like the Boston Sharks who managed to have a 10 - 5 season and we're favored to take it all at seasons end but we're upset by the team that was favored to take it all before the season started.

This season clearly looked more like an experimental season and there was only 2 teams with solid running games. Many teams tried to mainly focus on passing plays thinking that Arena style would work on the large football field but it was hard to say. Teams like Boston and LA proved the others wrong with there running games.

Several games ended in Ties in the first half of the season but in the 2nd half of the season things began to turn around.

The Post Season was a little dissapointing because most of the games we're low scoring games and the Post Season seemed to end rather quickly. The Storm who went 7-7-2 ended up winning it all and this was a downer as well to crittics everywhere.

But in the end everyone agreed that it's starting to look like things can only go up from this point on but the league will need to get more teams to join.
