Season 7 Recap

Season 7 looked very lopsided in the first 2 weeks but fans we're excited none the less. The league started talking about switching to a sudden death overtime period similar to the nfl. The league as of now uses a 10 minute overtime period but it started raising concerns by the blue collar dudes up at the head office because there's been atleast 1 tie game per season and that rarely happens in other leagues. Things got pretty ugly during league meetings when this topic was brought up even among fans calling talk radio shows. The final verdict was to keep it as is for the next 2 seasons.

4 new teams entered the league and struggled out the gates.

Montreal Voltigeurs
Chattanooga Express
Louisville Cardinals
Saskatchewan Steelers

The first meeting between 2 expansion teams resulted in a tie. Chattanooga vs. the Steelers both teams scored field goals in the overtime period and the final score was 41-41. This is the first time ever that all expansion teams struggled. By week 5 of the season only 1 expansion team had picked up a victory.

Prior to the start of the Season the Johnstown Flood was favored to win it all. The press felt it was there time to shine because of there tough defense and there balanced attack. The Sharks went back to being the Predators and suffered one of there worst losses in History to the Powerhouse 42-16 but managed to bounce back the following week with a dramatic 4th quarter comeback against the Avalanche. This also saw some of the highest scores ever even for Arena play including the worst beating ever on any sport period. The Birmingham Braves spanked the Expansion Louisville Cardinals and had one of the best winning streaks in the league including a much needed win against it's bitter rival Powerhouse. Which was a very anticipated matchup because the Owner rivalry between Rollntider and bigbaldben has spilled over from the MLF and TUFF. Birmingham won that battle in convicing fashion 73-45. Birmingham at that point was favored to go all the way. But the Powerhouse was the only tough team they had til that point, so the team was still filled with question marks. The Winning streak ended at 11 games and Fort Worth was the team set them up for the fall. Birmingham also beat up on last years champ and we're now heavily favored to win it all. But unfortunately they started they started a new streak a losing streak of 3 games and losing 4 of the last 5 games and got lucky cuz they just barely hung on to homefield advantage thru out the play offs.

More teams started running the ball and we're successfull at it because many teams began spreading the field wide a little more than usual. As a result teams found it easier to run the ball outside when they spread the field. Mexico City was doing this last year and so this season other teams followed and reaped the benefits.

Mexico City and Boston had another classic battle halfway thru the 3rd Quarter that looked very much like last years Alpha-Omega Bowl showdown. Boston tied the game at the beginning of the 3rd quarter 38-38 but folded halfway thru the 3rd Quarter tho and let the game slip out of reach for good.

At one Point the Predators took the lead in this play below

But the Outlaws tied it up once again but Boston once again threatened to take the lead.

The Predators went for it on 4th down and failed to score. The final score would tell us that the game wasn't what it was cracked up to be.

Also the NAFL allowed the media to tape post game press conferences and the first conference shown was one of Quarterback Paul Smith of the LA Armageddon. Tape below with credits because director Oliver Stone demanded it. Yes you heard me Oliver Stone directed it and we're not sure why a director was needed. Anyways the press conference is below taped live so keep in mind that this video contains fowl language. Smith got fined 10 dollars for his rudeness.

The Play-Off Results

New Orleans got the early jump on the Powerhouse but the Powerhouse managed to hang around at the half by staying within striking distance, but the Pirates began to make the lead bigger. The Armageddon shocked the world by beating a team that has been a thorn on there side thru out the years. The Armageddon had a small 7-0 lead halfway thru the 2nd quarter when they just exploded. Birmingham got it's revenge on Fort Worth but unfortunately for them they had to face another one of the few teams that beat them in the regular and lost that contest as shown above in the score. Mexico City just crushed the Johnstown Flood 63-24 and then following that up with a shutout against the Armageddon 17-0.

Alpha Omega Bowl 7

Mexico City scored the first 2 touchdowns and the Defense played very well in the first quarter but that was more than enough for the Outlaws. The Pirates we're moving the ball but ended up coming short in the end and the Defense did enough to keep the game out of reach and ensure it enshrinement as the first team to win it all 2 times. Could this be the NAFLs first dynasty???

Upcoming Season 8

Season 8 will see 4 more teams joining the league, possibly more and league realignment will be expected. A team that's expected to join the league are the Mississippi Cottonmouths who after leaving the league joined an indoor football league (See picture below). The Waco Rangers are also a team that will be joining the league for season 8. No word on the other 2 teams just yet but league officials said they will get 4 more teams in this upcoming season for sure.
